A music scene for an idle Mac
People searching for a Spotify screensaver often want their desk to look as good as the music feels. Velour approaches that with an idle immersive scene. The cover becomes the focus, lyrics follow the song, and ambient light carries the album colours around the display. It is a feature of a menu bar app that follows the Spotify desktop app, rather than a separate music player. You still choose and play your music in Spotify. Velour gives that playback a place on the rest of your screen.
Album art with a little room to breathe
Some albums come with motion artwork. When it is available, Velour can play that animated cover full screen. Other records use the regular cover with a slow, subtle movement, so a favourite older album still belongs in the scene. Artwork availability varies by album. A static cover is therefore an expected fallback, not a sign that your setup is broken. Pick a few familiar records when you first try the scene and notice how the palette and the mood change between them.
The words can come with it
Lyrics that highlight each word make the scene feel connected to the performance. Word-level timing is available for many popular tracks, while others have only line-level timing. Velour uses the available timing and falls back to following lines when needed. Some songs have no lyrics at all, especially instrumentals or less widely available releases. You can also choose artwork, lyrics, both or just the glow for each display. That is useful if you want a MacBook to show the cover while an external monitor gives the words more space.
Idle behaviour and display sleep
The idle scene takes over after a few minutes without activity. You can also open an immersive scene directly with a hotkey, without waiting for idle time. While the full screen scene is showing and music is playing, the display stays awake. Afterwards, the Mac returns to its normal sleep behaviour. The idle scene is a way to enjoy music at your desk; keep your usual macOS lock and security settings in mind. A lyrics card is also available on the lock screen when you choose to lock your Mac.
Get your desk ready
Use an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later. Install Velour in Applications and allow access to the current track from Music and Spotify. Start playback in the Spotify desktop app, then find Velour in the menu bar to make the scene your own. It also works with Apple Music, so the setup is not limited to a single library. Velour is a one-time $14.99 purchase with updates included. Optional beat sync needs system audio access, and its live analysis stays on your device.
