A small card for a quieter screen
Velour brings a lyrics card to your Mac lock screen as part of a wider music setup. It works with the Spotify and Apple Music desktop apps, following the track that is already playing. You can enjoy a soft glow around the display and leave the rest of your desk feeling calm. The lock screen card is one part of Velour, alongside immersive album artwork, timed lyrics and ambient screen light. You do not need a different app for each part of the atmosphere.
What lyric timing actually means
Lyrics depend on what is available for the track. Most popular songs have lyrics, and many have timing for individual words. That timing lets a word light up as it is sung, rather than asking you to find your place in a whole verse. If a track only has line-level timing, Velour follows one line at a time. Instrumentals, some recent releases and less widely available tracks may have no lyrics. Trying another song is a useful first check when the words do not appear.
Set it up with the music you use
You need an Apple silicon Mac with macOS 14 or later. Download Velour, move it into Applications and open it. Allow access to read the current track from Music and Spotify when macOS asks. Then start a song in either desktop app and lock your Mac to see the card. Velour stays in the menu bar with no Dock icon. If it is not detecting playback, check that you are using the desktop music app and review the access granted in System Settings.
Privacy and a locked Mac
Showing a lyric card is not the same as recording your screen. Velour does not record the screen or use your microphone. Optional beat sync analyses the sound your Mac is already playing, live and on the device; that analysis is not saved or uploaded. It needs system audio access only if you choose to use it. Think about what you want visible on a shared desk, just as you would with any information shown on a lock screen. Your Mac stays locked while the song carries on.
Make it part of the whole setup
The card is especially at home on a desk where the music keeps playing after work stops. When you return, a hotkey opens an immersive scene with artwork and lyrics. On a two-display setup, each screen can show artwork, lyrics, both, or just the glow. Velour costs $14.99 as a one-time purchase, with updates included and a licence for one Mac. If you want a simple first scene, begin with the album palette and let the next song choose the colours.
